The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture women association MOUAWA ,celebrated this year’s International Women’s day in grand style .In a colorful ceremony held at the event centre of MOUAWA, the association’s members featured keynote speakers who spoke on various topics ranging from health social, work ethics and food preparation.
Dr (Mrs) Nnenna Chikezie ,Permanent Secretary Ministry of women affairs presented a paper titled ‘’Women in changing world of work ‘’in which she stressed the importance of self-confidence in the life of women .she said self esteem makes for proper child upbringing ,especially during the early development stage.
Dr Chikezie urged women to incorporate the theme of this years celebration “be bold for change” into their daily living as it would help them to know what is in vogue .She cited internet usage as something women can take advantage of to improve themselves .
The Abia state commissioners for education ,Prof. Ikechi Mgbeoji and his women affairs counterpart , Lady Chinedu Brown ,as well as a representative of the commissioner for transport ,all made a presentations supporting the strength of women. They encourage women to equip themselves and to be educated and presentable so as to access government services at all levels.
The Salad master organization made a presentation on food handling and preparation ,showing how food can be made more appealing and nutritious for every member of the family.
Dance by traditional dance troopsand women from the host communities as well as comedy and jokes featured prominently at the ceremony the highpoint of which was the foundation laying ceremony of the MOUAWA Ultra-Modern Skills Acquisition Centre by the wife of the vice-chancellor, Barr. Mrs. Bertha Otunta, supported by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Mrs. Joy Nwabueze, as well as wives of traditional rulers from the host communities.

A goodwill message from Vice Chancellor Francis Otunta to MOUAWA was read to by the DVC (Admin) Prof. Joy Nwabueze, who represented him at the event. The VC congratulated the women for another successful year and wished them well in their pursuit of the cause of helping develop themselves through skills acquisition.
