Foreign shows are non-profitable; African shows pay more – Yemi Alade says
Nigerian songstress, Yemi Alade, who’s sometimes called Mama Africa, has given voice to her discontentment with the unprofitability of foreign concerts, as she reveals that African shows pay way better than foreign shows.
Foreign shows, according to Mama Africa, are only rich with glitz and glamor but can hardly grace the bank accounts of singers like African shows do. She noted that African countries, including those whose currency value is way lower than that of Nigeria, still afford to pay singers well. But foreign shows are only full of paparazzi without good profit.
Yemi, who is currently on her Mama Africa world tour, cited many reasons including long hour travels, lack of proper feeding and sleep as the constraints that come with these foreign tours. However, Yemi would rather tour the foreign scene to promote her music and brand but prefers to be called upon for concerts in African nations. She wrote;
“Not everyone knows the US entertainment doesn’t pay up to ¼ of what the African entertainment industry pays. It’s almost nonprofit.” So, guys, I bet you didn’t know this!!! That supposes that Africans singers who perform in foreign shows don’t earn much from it anyway. Little wonder Olamide and Davido don’t mind staying “Local” Up Africa!
